Arwin Tan

Arwin Tan studied at the University of the Philippines and has obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Music, majoring in Choral Conducting (Magna Cum Laude and Valedictorian of the graduating class) and a Master’s degree in Music, majoring in Musicology. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate degree in Music Studies.



He is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines, College of Music, and is actively involved in research, particularly on the church and band music traditions of the Philippines in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He has attended and presented papers in international conferences organized by the University of the Philippines and the International Council for Traditional Music. 








































His interest in the choral arts has been cultivated through singing with the University of the Philippines Madrigal Singers under Prof. Andrea Veneracion. He joined several international concert tours of the MADZ from 1998-2002, and was one of the choir’s resident arrangers. Arwin’s compositions and arrangements have been performed as pieces in international competitions by choirs in the Philippines and abroad.



As the founder and choirmaster of the Novo Concertante Manila, he led the choir to win the 46.Internationaler Chorwettbewerb in Spittal an der Drau, Austria (2009) and the LV Certamen Internacional de Habaneras y Polifonias in Torrevieja, Spain (2009), as well as the Grand Prize in the first-ever A Voyage of Songs International Choral Competition in Genting Highlands, Malaysia (2003). Recenlty, he led the choir to win the Grand Prize at the 1st Asia Cantate International Choral Competition in Phuket, Thailand (2012), in which he was also awarded  the Most Outstanding Conductor Prize, as well as winning the coveted Grand Prix Award in the Mixed Choir Category at the 1st Xinghai Prize Internatioanl Choir Championships in Guangzhou, China.































Arwin regularly holds choral clinics in the Philippines, and he has also conducted choral workshops in Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. He has been invited and sat as a juror in various international choral competitions in China, Malaysia and Taiwan, as well as in choral competitions in the Philippines.
